North Hills, CA (October 17, 2021) – Sebastian Chavez, an 18 month old toddler, was killed by a SUV involved in a two-vehicle crash on Nordhoff Street, near Langdon Avenue in Los Angeles County.
The collision was reported around 07:35 a.m. Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division, firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene shortly thereafter. Chavez was in his stroller on the sidewalk when two vehicles crashed, propelling the driver of a silver Honda HR-V onto the sidewalk, where he struck the stroller and a tamale stand.
The silver Honda HR-V was making a left turn when it collided with a grey sedan that was possibly a Toyota Camry. The Honda driver’s foot appeared to be stuck when it was propelled. Once they were able to back up, they stayed at the scene. However the Toyota driver continued east on Nordhoff without offering assistance to the toddler or the woman who owned the tamale stand, who was also injured.
Police and first responders found Chavez after he had been pinned between the Honda and a brick planter. Chavez was transported to a local area hospital where he passed away. There have been no arrests in the case as the investigation is still under way.
