A Northern California pedestrian crash killed a 76-year-old man after two parked cars crushed him during a police chase.
A Northern California pedestrian crash took the life of a 76-year-old man. The incident occurred when he was caught between two parked cars hit by a suspect fleeing from police.
According to the report, the police chase began in Vallejo, north of Oakland, when an officer attempted to pull over a motorist for reckless driving.
Despite the officer activating his emergency lights and siren, the suspect failed to stop in a red Ford Fusion and sped away.
The Vallejo Police Department stated that the Ford Fusion sped west on Carolina Street. Moreover, he disregarded two stop signs before crashing into several parked cars in the 300 block of Carolina Street.
Tragically, the 76-year-old man, a resident of Vallejo, stood between two of the parked cars when the suspect’s vehicle struck them.
Consequently, the impact caused one parked vehicle to push into another, resulting in the man’s fatal crushing.
After the crash, authorities transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police are withholding the victim’s name until his family is informed.
Following the collision, the Ford Fusion’s driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A later search of the car by VPD officers turned up a firearm.
The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information about this Northern California pedestrian crash may contact Corporal Kenny Trimble of the VPD Traffic Division at (707) 648-4329.

More About Pedestrian Accident Liability
Pedestrians usually get major to fatal injuries in pedestrian accidents, such as in this Northern California pedestrian crash. Sometimes, they can even cause death. When it comes to liability, it can fall on the pedestrian or driver based on various factors of the accident. Proving liability can become vague or obvious. The process generally involves finding out who acted carelessly, causing the accident. Any Los Angeles personal injury or accident lawyer will tell you that you need to show the following to prove negligence and liability:
- legal responsibility or “duty of care”
- violated or breached the duty of care
- the violation caused the accident
- the violation resulted in injuries or damages
In some cases, the driver might’ve sped down the road, hitting the pedestrian. This can put fault on the driver. Meanwhile, pedestrians can get hit by a car because they acted against traffic signals, such as jaywalking. In these instances, the pedestrian can become at fault. Other factors, such as lack of road markings and ample lighting, can also lead to pedestrian accidents. In these cases, a pedestrian accident lawyer can help look at all angles to determine liability. Learn more about pedestrian accident lawyers in California here.
