An Orange County pursuit crash left a 15-year-old female passenger fatal. Meanwhile, the driver, 18-year-old Izaiah Joseph Miranda, is now facing multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter.
Reports suggest that this Orange County pursuit crash occurred on March 8 when Orange Police Department officers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office said that three individuals, the driver and two teenagers from Orangewood Children’s Home, were inside the car during the police stop.
While two of the teenagers complied with police orders to exit the vehicle, the 15-year-old girl, later identified as Denisse Pilego Roman, suddenly moved into the front passenger seat as Miranda accelerated away.
During the pursuit, prosecutors allege that Miranda reached 120 miles per hour on the 22 Freeway, leading police in a chase from Orange to Long Beach.
Moreover, in Long Beach, Miranda ran a red light and collided with another vehicle, resulting in a crash that severely injured the teen passenger.
Responders then rushed her to the hospital in serious condition. However, she succumbed to her injuries several days later.
On the other hand, Miranda faces multiple charges, including one felony count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, one felony count of hit-and-run resulting in permanent injury or death, one felony count of reckless evading causing death, one felony count of child abuse and endangerment, and one felony enhancement for fleeing the scene after committing vehicular manslaughter.
Furthermore, if convicted on all charges, Miranda could face a maximum sentence of 12 years and four months in state prison.
