A Highway 580 multi-vehicle crash in Oakland left a pedestrian dead.
The California Highway Patrol reported one fatality on a Highway 580 multi-vehicle crash.
This alarming incident came to light when a driver called and reported seeing a man ‘flying’ in front of her vehicle near the Harrison Street exit ramp.
However, the driver confidently stated to the officers that her vehicle was not involved in the accident.
Unfortunately, while officers were enroute to the location, multiple vehicles allegedly ran over the man.
In response, the police issued a SigAlert at 11:54 p.m., shutting down I-580 in the westbound direction at Grand Avenue.
Tragically, the man was declared dead on arrival at the scene.
Adding to the complexity, the Oakland police received a tip from a resident about a black sedan with visible front-end damage.
Moreover, the car was seen stopped just off the Harrison Street exit around the time of the accident. The driver apparently sought help to jumpstart his car.
At this time, the authorities have not confirmed this vehicle’s involvement in the collision.
Eventually, the CHP canceled the SigAlert. Meanwhile, Westbound I-580 was reopened to traffic at 2:21 a.m. on Monday.
J&M Tip: People have questions about necessary medical care and property damage after a car crash. A skilled attorney can assist in determining liability, as well as identifying which party bears responsibility for the accident.

More About Pedestrian Accident Liability
Pedestrians usually get major injuries in pedestrian accidents. Sometimes, they can even cause death. When it comes to liability, it can fall on the pedestrian or driver based on various factors of the accident. Proving liability can become vague or obvious. The process generally involves finding out who acted carelessly, causing the accident. Any Los Angeles personal injury or accident lawyer will tell you that you need to show the following to prove negligence and liability:
- legal responsibility or “duty of care”
- violated or breached the duty of care
- the violation caused the accident
- the violation resulted in injuries or damages
In some cases, the driver might’ve sped down the road, hitting the pedestrian. This can put fault on the driver. Meanwhile, pedestrians can get hit by a car because they acted against traffic signals, such as jaywalking. In these instances, the pedestrian can become at fault. Other factors, such as lack of road markings and ample lighting, can also lead to pedestrian accidents. In these cases, a pedestrian accident lawyer can help look at all angles to determine liability. Learn more about pedestrian accident lawyers in California here.
