In two separate San Fernando Valley car crashes last week, two pedestrians using wheelchairs and a person pushing one of them suffered fatal injuries after vehicles struck them while crossing the street in the San Fernando Valley.
On Thursday, around 7:50 p.m., a Chevy Silverado traveling southbound on Foothill Boulevard near Astoria Street in Sylmar collided with a woman in a wheelchair and the man assisting her.
The Los Angeles Fire Department transported the unidentified woman in her 40s to a hospital, where she later died. Additionally, the man accompanying her, Paul Chavez, 38, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Meanwhile, the Silverado driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
On the other hand, one of the two San Fernando Valley car crashes happened at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday, on Lankershim Boulevard near Strathern Street, when a driver heading south struck a 60-year-old man in a wheelchair crossing in an undesignated crosswalk.
The collision happened outside a housing facility for homeless individuals operated by LA Family Housing.
Leo Dagga, who works at a nearby store, said the victim visited the shop every few days. It is unsure whether the pedestrian lived in the shelter.
Moreover, LA Family Housing has not yet commented about the accident.
Furthermore, there have been 15 serious collisions requiring police intervention this year in North Hollywood, including these two separate San Fernando Valley car crashes. According to Los Angeles Police Department records, four of these accidents resulted in deaths.
J&M Tip: If a pedestrian gets hit by a careless driver in a pedestrian crash, they can file a personal injury claim. A car accident lawyer can assist in establishing responsibility and pinpointing the responsible party in the incident.
