El Cerrito Officer Jerrick Bernstine killed, 2 injured in San Pablo 1-80 crash
San Pablo, CA (January 10, 2022) – 25-year-old police El Cerrito Officer Jerrick Bernstine died in a crash on Interstate highway 80 (I-80) in San Pablo. The collision happened at around 6:15 am near west of San Pablo Dam Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a driver lost control of his transit van, which hit the highway’s center divider. The transit van stopped in the wrong direction and got hit by three other vehicles, one of which was Bernstine’s.

Officer Jerrick Bernstine was on his way home from work when the accident happened.
Authorities have shared that Bernstine died at the scene. Meanwhile, two people sustained major injuries and were taken to the hospital immediately. El Cerrito police expressed grief about Bernstine’s death.
El Cerrito police said, “Officer Bernstine was 26 at the time of his death and he was everything a person could hope for in a police officer, citizen, teammate, son, brother, and friend.” Bernstine started working in the El Cerrito police in February of 2020. Before that, he worked as an in-home caregiver.
