Marc David Pankin Fatal and One Pilot in Critical Condition in San Rafael Plane Crash
San Rafael, CA (July 10, 2023) – Marc David Pankin (59) sustained fatal injuries from a San Rafael plane crash at the Smith Ranch Airport. A pilot also sustained severe injuries from the accident. According to NBC Bay Area, the accident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Marc David Pankin sustained fatal injuries from a San Rafael plane crash at the Smith Ranch Airport. The pilot, Kirk Harford, is also in critical condition due to the accident.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal San Rafael plane crash involving a single-engine Cessna 172 at the Smith Ranch Airport, leaving one occupant dead and a pilot severely injured.
The authorities identified the fatal victim as 59-year-old Marc David Pankin of Novato and the severely injured pilot as 73-year-old Kirk Harford of San Rafael.
According to the San Rafael Fire Department, the victims were returning from Minden-Tahoe Airport in Nevada for business when their plane’s tail fin collided with power lines and landed in a swamp near the runway’s eastern end.
Unfortunately, the power lines wrapped around the plane, making it challenging for paramedics to reach the victims.
The firefighters were able to extricate the victims from the plane. However, Pankin succumbed to his injuries while Harford was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with significant injuries.
Meanwhile, the plane accident caused a power outage for nearly 2,000 PG&E customers.
Moreover, The Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Coroner’s Division, and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating this San Rafael plane crash.
