Santu Maya Suffered Fatal Injuries in Oakland Hit-and-Run Crash
Oakland, CA (June 27, 2023) – Santu Maya (58) succumbed to fatal injuries sustained in an Oakland hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Vicksburg Avenue. According to Kron4, the accident occurred around 7 p.m. on June 16.
Santu Maya was fatally injured in a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Vicksburg Avenue in Oakland.
The Oakland Police Department reported the fatality in an Oakland hit-and-run crash involving a Mercedes Benz and a woman on foot, leaving the pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.
The fatality was identified as 58-year-old Santu Maya of Oakland.
According to the surveillance video capturing the accident, Maya was catching up with her daughter and granddaughter on a crosswalk when she stayed behind to pick up something.
Unfortunately, a speeding driver headed into Maya’s path, striking her.
She succumbed to her head injuries from the crash.
Meanwhile, the speeding driver fled the scene after causing the casualty. Witnesses mentioned that the driver seemed to be racing with another vehicle at the time of the accident.
Authorities now released the involved vehicle’s details to locate the driver. The police identified it as a modern Mercedes Benz, possibly an E-350, from 2010 to 2013. It’s black with tinted windows and standard rims.
Additionally, they released the car’s license plate, CA 5AUT73. However, the driver may have removed the license plate from the vehicle.
Maya arrived at Oakland International Airport four months ago, having moved from Thailand to be reunited with her family.
Sanjoo Verma, the victim’s daughter, had intended to take her mother on a road trip to welcome her mother to the United States in a few months, never expecting to lose her mother within months of her arrival.
Although it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident, authorities believe speed and street racing are likely to have played a role in this Oakland hit-and-run crash.
The Oakland Police Department and Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
