Nuevo Collision Killed Off-Duty Motorcycle Officer Sgt Matt Lewis of The Riverside Police Department
Nuevo, CA (August 2, 2022) – Sgt Matt Lewis (45) of Riverside was identified as the fatality in an off-duty traffic collision near Pico Avenue and Santa Rosa Road in Nuevo. According to the Daily Bulletin, the crash occurred around 7:15 pm on Monday.
Riverside Police Sgt Matt Lewis was involved in a fatal off-duty collision near Pico Avenue and Santa Rosa Road in Nuevo.
The California Highway Patrol reported a fatal collision involving an off-duty motorcycle officer and a truck towing a flatbed trailer near Pico Avenue and Santa Rosa Road in Nuevo.
Following the collision, the off-duty motorcycle officer was pronounced dead at the scene. The Riverside Police Department identified him as Sgt Matt Lewis.
According to CHP spokesman Officer Keith Ballantyne, a truck towing a trailer failed to yield and attempted to make a left turn from southbound Pico to eastbound Santa Rosa Road. The off-duty motorcycle officer then crashed into the side of the truck.
Sgt Lewis was on his personal motorcycle when the collision occurred.
The Riverside Police Department held a procession to escort the fallen officer from the scene to the coroner’s office.
Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez posted a message in mourning of Sgt Matt Lewis.
