Teenager killed in Fatal Crash on Highway 116 Identified as Liam Washington
Sonoma, CA (January 17, 2022) – 16-year-old Liam Washington died in a fatal crash that happened on Highway 116. The incident took place on Sunday at around 11:15 am near Watmaugh Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Washington sat in the back seat of a 2017 Cadillac while 24-year-old Manessis T. Alexander drove behind the wheel. Authorities suspect that Alexander was under the influence of drugs when the accident happened.
Alexander sustained severe injuries in the crash and was taken to Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa.
Liam Washington’s twin brother, Lucas Washington, also sat in the vehicle’s front passenger seat during the accident. He sustained injuries and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Lucas’s condition couldn’t be revealed because he’s a minor.

Liam and Lucas Washington attended Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley as sophomores. The school’s principal J.C. Farr says, “Liam was a valued member of our student community and will surely be missed. We are feeling his loss very deeply.”
CHP Sgt. Cruz Correa says that some witnesses have reported that Alexander was “driving recklessly, crossing over solid double yellow lines, passing other vehicles that were traveling westbound.” According to reports, Alexander struck three cars during the incident. The Cadillac hit an Infiniti SUV, then a 2005 Acura, and followed by a 2016 Ford F-350 pickup.
Fortunately, drivers of these vehicles sustained minor to no injuries. The CHP could not provide an estimate of the Cadillac’s speed during the crash. However, the vehicle sustained severe damage, which indicated “significant” speed.
