Steven Taggert Fatal in Suspected DUI Crash in Santa Cruz, One Passenger Severely Injured
Santa Cruz County, CA (July 24, 2023) – Steven Taggert (34) of Boulder Creek was identified as the fatality in a suspected DUI crash in Santa Cruz County. A passenger, Steven Foster (31) of Boulder Creek, also sustained significant injuries from the collision. According to CBS News, police responded to the crash at 5:08 p.m. on Sunday.

On Monday, the California Highway Patrol reported that alcohol may have played a role in a tragic car crash in Santa Cruz County that resulted in a driver’s death and severe injuries to a passenger.
The CHP identified the fatal victim as 34-year-old Steven Taggert of Boulder Creek and the injured passenger as 31-year-old Steven Foster of Boulder Creek.
According to the initial report, a red 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup truck veered off the roadway, causing the vehicle to strike a tree and ultimately overturn.
Taggert and Foster sustained significant injuries from the collision and were rushed to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, Taggert succumbed to head trauma and passed away at the hospital.
Moreover, authorities temporarily closed a section of Highway 9 near Santa Cruz, between Spring Creek Road and Douglas Avenue, to manage the situation.
Police are still investigating the cause of the Santa Cruz car crash, but they suspect alcohol to be a contributing factor.
