12-Year-Old Boy Fatally Injured after Suspected Oceanside DUI Crash Involving a Camp Pendleton Marine
Oceanside, CA (July 7, 2023) – A suspected Oceanside DUI crash left a 12-year-old boy with fatal injuries. The suspect driver was identified as a Marine based at Camp Pendleton. According to FOX5, the crash occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The California Highway Patrol responded to a suspected DUI crash near Mission Avenue and Myers Street in Oceanside, San Diego County, leaving a 12-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries.
The authorities attempted to pull over a white Volkswagen GTI, but the driver sped away before colliding with a Blue Nissan Altima driving east on Surfrider Way.
Unfortunately, the collision resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy in the Altima. Additionally, two other passengers, a 27-year-old and a 6-year-old, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver responsible for the crash, a 20-year-old Marine based at Camp Pendleton, Edward Minot Jr, was identified and arrested for DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
Minot Jr. was a native of Mill Spring, North Carolina and was a part of the 1st Maintenance Battalion as confirmed by the 1st Marine Logistics Group.
Captain Charles “Chuck” Palmer stated that the “1st Marine Logistics Group commits itself to high standards for personal conduct, both on and off duty, and will continue to cooperate with the Oceanside Police Department while the incident is being investigated.”
