A Temecula school bus crash occurred when a female driver collided with a Crowne Hill Elementary School Bus, causing injuries to four people, including two children.
Additionally, the 28-year-old San Jacinto woman was taken into custody on Friday under suspicion of driving under the influence and causing a chain reaction crash.
The incident occurred on Butterfield Stage Road just north of Pauba Road around 3:25 p.m., when Mariah Reese, driving northbound on Butterfield Stage Road at approximately 70 mph, approached the school bus from behind.
Reese allegedly attempted to use the right shoulder to pass the bus instead of the left lane but struck a curb, bounced back, and collided with the bus’ right side.
Unfortunately, the impact caused the bus driver to lose control, veering into southbound traffic and colliding with an SUV. Meanwhile, the SUV attempted to steer clear but couldn’t avoid the collision.
At the time of the crash, seven children, aged between 7 and 10, were on the bus. Two of them were taken to Temecula Valley Hospital with complaints of pain.
Moreover, the 48-year-old female bus driver was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center with moderate injuries. In addition, responders took the 39-year-old SUV driver to Temecula Valley Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
Furthermore, police booked Reese into jail on suspicion of DUI and driving with a blood-alcohol content of .08% or higher, with bail set at $50,000.
