What to Expect When Hiring a DUI Accident Lawyer
Hiring a DUI accident lawyer can be a critical step toward receiving adequate compensation for your injuries and damages. However, it can be overwhelming when someone tells you to hire a lawyer. Hence, it is essential to understand the process of hiring a lawyer and what to expect at each stage.
- Step 1: Initial Phone Call or Consultation: The initial stage starts with a free phone consultation to gather essential details about your case and explain what to expect. A legal staff will discuss your options, possible outcomes, and the next steps in the personal injury settlement process. During this call, you may also ask about your case and the legal team you will be working with, such as how they update their clients to gauge if they fit your needs and wants.
- Step 2: Setting Up the Case File: If you decide to hire a DUI accident lawyer, a staff member will guide you through signing the retainer agreement. Furthermore, personal injury attorneys usually work on a contingency basis, meaning you only pay if we win your case. After signing the retainer agreement, the legal staff or team will create a case file, gathering all necessary documentation and evidence to support your claim.
- Step 3: Connecting You with a Case Manager: You will be assigned a dedicated case manager to be your primary contact throughout the process. They will oversee your treatment plan, work with the insurance company, and ensure your case progresses smoothly. However, this part of the legal process depends on how the firm works. So, you must inquire if you have a designated case manager before hiring them.
- Step 4: Getting Your Injuries Treated: Your primary focus should be getting the necessary medical treatment since you already hired a legal team for your case. Hence, your lawyer should handle the legal aspects, including working with insurance and medical providers, so that you can concentrate on recovery. A good personal injury firm also connects you with the appropriate doctors for your injuries to avoid having further issues.
- Step 5: Collecting Records: As your treatment progresses, your legal team or staff should collect all medical bills and records to create a detailed demand letter outlining the facts of your case, including liability analysis, medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
- Step 6: Negotiating on Your Behalf: After compiling all the necessary records, your legal expert will send the demand letter to the at-fault party’s insurance company, seeking appropriate compensation. They should also be able to negotiate on your behalf to ensure you receive a fair settlement.
- Step 7: Settling the Liens: After receiving the payout, your legal expert should negotiate to reduce any medical bills covered by liens, maximizing your settlement amount and ensuring you get the compensation you deserve.
Hiring a DUI accident lawyer offers the expertise and assistance you need to navigate the complex process of filing a personal injury claim. Additionally, they ensure you get the compensation you deserve.
