A Sacramento PD Detective Fatally Struck Juan Carlos Rodriguez and Lionel Enriquez Rodriguez in I-5 Rear-End Crash
Sacramento, CA (December 6, 2022) – Juan Carlos Rodriguez (33) of Sacramento and Lionel Enriquez Rodriguez (32) of Simi Valley were identified as the fatalities in a traffic crash involving a Sacramento police detective on Interstate 5 near Sutterville Road. According to CBS News, the crash occurred around 6:16 am on Tuesday.

The California Highway Patrol received a report of a fatal rear-end crash involving a Sacramento PD detective and two pedestrians on Interstate 5 near Sutterville Road.
When they arrived, they found two pedestrians and a truck hit by a vehicle. One of the victims died at the scene, while the other succumbed to fatal injuries as they were on the way to the hospital.
The Sacramento County coroner’s office identified both victims as Juan Carlos Rodriguez of Sacramento and Lionel Enriquez Rodriguez of Simi Valley. Their family has also confirmed that the two victims were brothers.
According to CHP, a disabled pickup truck ran out of gas and stopped on the shoulder of the roadway. An SUV then pulled over to assist. Both men stood at the left side of the stopped truck.
For reasons yet to be determined, an unmarked vehicle driven by a Sacramento PD detective then went over the solid white line and rear-ended the pickup truck and two men.
The detective remained at the scene. He did not sustain any injury. He was said to be on duty at the time of the crash.
The CHP assured that there would be an open and transparent investigation.
