UPS Truck Driver Jeff Sutch Got Killed in a Crash on I-15 in San Diego
San Diego, CA (February 23, 2022) – UPS Truck Driver Jeff Sutch (51) died after crashing a semi-truck on Interstate 15 in San Diego. According to NBC San Diego, the incident happened at around 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), initial findings show that Sutch had trouble handling the vehicle on a downhill curve on Interstate 15 near the Camino Del Rio on ramp while raining. Then, Sutch’s semi-truck flipped, stopping on the freeway’s right shoulder.

UPS provided a statement to NBC San Diego: “We are heartbroken by the loss of our driver Jeff Sutch, and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Those who knew Jeff said he was a trusted friend, he took great pride in his work, and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Jeff was held in high regard and will be greatly missed.”
The CHP is still investigating the incident. Investigations and clean-up affected the flow of traffic until around 7:00 am.
UPS Semi-truck jack knifed and rolled off the freeway, killing the driver. CHP working to determine what caused the crash on the 15N @ Friars near the 8 interchange. No word yet on if it’s weather related, though a witness tells CHP it was raining at the time.
