The state of California has been devastated by wildfires that took 42 lives. The California wine region has also been plagued by unprecedented wildfires ravaging residents and wildlife. These fires sparked fear in iconic counties like Napa, Yuba, and Sonoma.
Due to the wildfires, state of emergency has been declared for seven counties within California. 20,000 residents were forced to evacuate in order to avoid imminent danger.
The deadly wildfires in the US state made the UK’s Foreign Office (FCO) issue a safety warning to British travelers.
FCO emphasized the risk of traveling to states involved. UK’s Foreign Office listed the areas in which large wildfires have broken, namely: “counties of Napa, Sonoma, Yuba, Butte, Nevada, Calaveras, Humboldt, Mendocino and Lake in the State of California.”
From a state of emergency declared in Napa, Sonoma, and Yuba, evacuation orders are enforced. Emergency shelters have been prepared and opened to house residents affected.
The wildfire, being naturally destructive, have severely disrupted neighborhoods. The damages range from properties to infrastructures, which include phone communications and internet lines. UK’s Foreign Office reminded the travelers that wildfires spread swiftly and that everyone should always remain cautious.
Local officials stated that the death toll ranked the highest for a single cluster of wildfires recorded within a decade, and is expected to rise higher. “More than 60 cases of wildfires were blazing in California as of 11:00 a.m. BST,” California Fire Department reported.
The number also includes unconnected fires in other areas of the state. California Fire spokesman Daniel Berlant has stated that the wind travels in excess of 50 miles per hour. The velocity rapidly spread 15 separate wildfires across 73,000 acres in northern California which all started Sunday evening.
The wildfires destroyed a total of 1,500 household and commercial properties, killing the commerce in the affected areas. Disneyland Anaheim is also affected by the raging blaze, making the affected areas a burning furnace.
