Concert-Crasher Dies in Police Custody after Arrest for Public Intoxication at Sleep Train Ampitheatre
CHULA VISTA, CA (July 28, 2016) – Investigators are looking into the death of a man who was in Chula Vista police custody for public intoxication at a Dead & Company concert on Wednesday night.
According to a report, a man who appeared intoxicated was moving from seat to seat during the concert. The man could not produce a ticket so the venue security personnel started escorting him to the exit. He tried to struggle and was screaming incoherently and acting irrationally when the officers arrested him on a charge of public intoxication.
While the Chula Vista police officers were completing paperwork on the arrest, the intoxicated man had been sitting in the security office, handcuffed and apparently sleeping until an officer noticed that he had stopped snoring and was unresponsive. Medical personnel tried to revive him but he was declared dead at 9:15 p.m.
His name has yet to be made public. Police described him as a heavy-set white man in his late 50s. The cause of the his death was not immediately known. An autopsy is still pending.
