Evening DUI Crash on Highway 43 in Shafter Kills Two and Injures Two Others
SHAFTER, CA (June 26, 2018) – Two people were killed following a suspected DUI crash Tuesday evening in Shafter, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened around 9:41 p.m. on Highway 43 at Burbank Street.
According to the CHP, a Honda sedan was traveling northbound on Highway 43 when it made a left turn onto the Colony Market. A white utility truck heading southbound at a high rate of speed then collided into the rear of the Honda.
Two passengers in the Honda were ejected from the car and were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were reportedly not wearing their seat belts.
The driver of the utility truck and the driver of the Honda sedan were both taken to the hospital.
Officers said the driver of the truck was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Both lanes of the highway were closed during clearing operation.
No identifying information is being released at this time. This fatal incident is still under investigation.
