Bicyclist Hospitalized, Driver Jailed after Vista Hit-and-Run Accident
VISTA, CA (August 8, 2018) – A hit-and-run accident in Vista resulted in a cyclist hospitalized with serious injuries and a driver jailed for reportedly fleeing the scene on Monday, August 6.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Frank Sandoval, the accident was reported a just before 5:40 p.m. at University Drive and Lobelia Drive. Witnesses told investigators that a 2010 Toyota sedan was traveling eastbound on Lobelia Drive when it hit a man riding a bicycle, then fled.
Paramedics transported the cyclist to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido with injuries that were serious but not expected to be life-threatening, according to Sandoval.
A witness to the crash was able to identify the driver and vehicle and point deputies to the vehicle’s location.
Sandoval said that the driver was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility. His identity was not released Monday night.
Investigators don’t believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
Stay calm if you find yourself in a car accident. Contact emergency officials and check on those injured, if possible. Never flee the scene of an accident in order to avoid charges and arrest. It is always best to wait for officials to arrive and to avoid more severe repercussions.
